It May Be Worth A Closer Look When it comes to nail maintenance, it can be easier to spot a problem on your fingernail than your toenail just by proximity to your line of vision. Everyday activities such as eating, writing and typing put your fingernails in plain view, where a subtle change in color, texture or shape can be easily recognizable. As a result, toenails can often be more susceptible to health issues. When viewing your feet, do your nails appear strong and healthy looking, or do you see dents, ridges and discoloration of any sort? If so, there may be a condition worth discussing with your foot doctor. Nails are made up of laminated layers of keratin, and they grow from the base of the nail under the cuticle.
